A Day at Poema del Mar: Marine Wonders and Conservation

We visited the Poema del mar aquarium which was a huge aquarium with both jungle, tropical and the deep ocean as themes. Throughout the visit, we saw an incredible variety of animals including turtles, fish, crocodiles, sharks, and seahorses. The sheer size of the aquarium left us all truly amazed and fascinated.

The aquarium houses over 550 different animal species and holds more than 9 million liters of water. One of its standout features is the world’s largest curved aquarium window, with a surface area of over 250 square meters, stretching 36 meters in length and 7 meters in height.

Our tour began by walking through a jungle area filled with tropical plants, where we spotted frogs, turtles, and crocodiles in their naturalistic habitats. From there, we moved into the tropical zone, centered around a massive cylindrical aquarium home to colorful tropical fish, including stingrays and small sharks. This section also featured vibrant coral displays, jellyfish, and seahorses.

The experience concluded in the deep ocean area, highlighted by the iconic curved window. Through this enormous glass, we observed sharks, turtles, and a variety of other fish swimming in a stunning underwater panorama. Nearby aquariums housed fascinating creatures like octopuses, eels, and sea dragons.

We obviously finished off the day, with a visit to the gift shop to buy caps and stuffed animals.

While the visit was definitely fun and exciting, it was also a valuable learning experience. A key part of the trip was the environmental exhibition, which focused on raising awareness about marine conservation. It highlighted the fragile balance of ocean ecosystems and the challenges they face due to pollution and climate change.
