Since we’re a cooking school, it was only natural for us to explore various foods. We especially wanted to taste the local specialties. That’s why visiting the Km. 0 Market was a must.
The Km. 0 Market is a fair dedicated to promoting and selling local food produced in Gran Canaria. It takes place six times a year in different villages across the island.
This market is part of a sustainability initiative that encourages eco-friendly consumption by reducing transportation and offering fresher products. It supports the local community and economy by helping small producers and farmers thrive.
The Km. 0 Market was first launched during the pandemic as a way to help local producers during challenging times. From the very beginning, it has enjoyed great success.
The market features many stalls showcasing local products like cheese, honey, milk, wine, and fruits and vegetables. You can also find craft beer, bread, pastries, and gofio. Other products include juices, coffee, fish, sweets, oils, liquors, and spices. Many vendors also offer free samples to try.
